Co-Payment, Penalty and Admission fees, what is the difference?

Modified on Tue, 25 May, 2021 at 2:11 PM

Co-payments are scheme-imposed amounts that are paid to the hospital upfront based on the specific procedure to be performed.

Penalty Fees are upfront fees charged when making use of a non-network (DSP) hospital in terms of your medical scheme rules. This amount can be fixed or a percentage of the total bill and is paid to the hospital directly.

Admission Fees are only charged by some medical schemes and are normally a fixed amount based on the procedure to be performed in hospital.
